Unicorns and Kiwi Muffins

Dennis Kucinich introduced H.R. 808 last year.

If you're too lazy to click the link, this bill would establish the Department of Peace and Nonviolence, complete with a cabinet level Secretary of Peace and Nonviolence.

The purpose of the department would be to promote and research peaceful and non-violent solutions, conflict resolution, peace,  and non-violence.

It also has a duty to teach peace and non-violence as part of the public education curriculum, and to promote peace and non-violence to the public at large.

We all want peace and non-violence because you can't hug puppies with nuclear arms.
Barf. This is one of the stupidest fucking things I've ever heard. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that former alien abductee, Dennis Kucinich, is behind it.

But, it's actually kind of frightful to think it will have a shot at being passed with Obama in office. He's said a time or two that he wants to create a Civilian Service Corp. that is as well-funded and well-equipped as the Pentagon. $500,000,000,000 of tax payer money to be spent on some cockamamie Civilian Service Corp. And he has the framework for this sitting in a subcommittee in-box.

The Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education is looking it over right now. Which is right up Obama's alley. He was a community organizer and an advocate for education reform while working on the Annenberg Challenge in Chicago. Of course his $200,000,000 effort was distinctly underwhelming(pdf).

"Analyses using the productivity index reveal that achievement trends in Annenberg schools did not differ from those in demographically similar non-Annenberg schools. There were no statistically significant differences in reading or math on any grade level in any year between 1995 and 2001."
Anyhow, Obama could conceivably create an entire army of Peace Agents.  They go to schools, to brainwash and recruit a whole generation of Civilian Peace Agents.  All in the name of peace and non-violence.

It's not impossible, however unlikely.  I'm not ready to start hyperventilating just yet.  I'll save that for the day when Obama appoints William Ayers as the Secretary of Peace and Non-Violence.
