Fo' Shizzle

Guess who has a spiffy new hat.  It's me!

I made it meself, and I need to record the instructions for posterity, so see below the fold for the pattern.

This is a work in progress since the pattern mostly comes out of my own head.  What I thought would be a sock hat ended up being a beanie.  Add another 6-12 rows for a sock hat.  76 sts might not be quite enough after washing.  It's supposed to fit tightly, but if it shrinks the hat is likely to fit like a nylon.  Castons should be even in number, and ideally a multiple of four.
You'll need a skein each of two colors.  I used worsted weight wool.  I'm going to make one of worsted weight cotton as well.  I didn't want a particularly warm hat since I'm so damn hot-blooded, but you can use heavier yarn for a warmer one.

I used #10 knitting needles since my habit is to knit very tightly.  Worsted weight yarn generally suggests something like a #7.

Knit in the round w/ 2 colors.**

Cast on 76 stitches (18 x 4 dp needles) in color 1

Work round *k2 p1* repeat * 4 rows

Work *k8 inc 1* round

Add second color and work *knit rounds alternating colors every 2 st, and reversing colors every 2 rows* for ~ 20 rows.

Knit *k7 k2tog* repeat * round

Knit *k6 k2tog* repeat * round

Knit *k5 k2tog* repeat * round

Knit *k4 k2tog* repeat * round

Knit *k3 k2tog* repeat * round

Knit *k2tog* repeat round

Knit *k2tog* repeat round

Knit round

To finish, cut a long tail.  Use a darning needle or crochet hook to draw tail through loops left on knitting needles.  Pull the loops tight.  Draw tail to wrong side of piece and tie off.

**If pattern has handedness, it needs to be reversed since knitting in the round always faces the right side and work progresses from right to left.  I used the stranding method so the wrong side isn't very tidy, but the weaving method would work as well.

I'll add a photo and maybe the color chart later.
